More about Nandanik Dance Festival in WQED Interview with Anna Singer

  Nandanik Dance, a classical Indian Dance Troupe, is presenting a festival! Director Nandini Mandal, and students Shriya Narasimhan and Pavithra Dante, talk with Anna Singer live about their upcoming dance festival, Vilaya The Confluence. Nandini talks about creating this dance troupe after emigrating to the U.S from Kolkata. She hopes to preserve, promote, and share all forms of Indian Classical dance in Pittsburgh. One of the ways is through their yearly festival, Vilaya. The festival brings together four different dance groups in one night! Shriya and Pavithra talk about their introduction to dance, and why they continue with it today. Both hope to continue it when they graduate high school. All three talk about their favorite parts of Indian Classical dance, and what audiences can look forward to during the festival.    Vilaya 2025 Nandanik Dance Troupe presents Vilaya, The Confluence Festival of Indian classical dances. Festival Curated by Nandini Mandal Saturday April 12, 2025 from 4 pm to 7 pm  New Hazlett Theater, 6 Allegheny Square East, Pittsburgh,  PA 15212. Parking: Allegheny Center Parking/Street Parking This dance festival , which incidentally coincides with the Chaitra Navaratri and Ramnavami, will be featuring the entire Hanuman Chalisa, a Bharatanatyam solo by Pavitra Bhat,  DasaMahaavidyaa by Nandini Mandal, Subhajit Khush Das and Nandanik Dance Troupe, and Vaishnavite themes in Odissi by Guru Bichitranandan Swain and his Rudrakshya Troupe. It will be an enchanting evening of stories from far, in colorful costumes and amazing music in various languages.
