From Edinburgh to Pittsburgh, “Crumb to a Bird Ensemble” announces the U.S. debut of their immersive, site-specific play, KILN at the Pittsburgh Fringe Festival this March. Premiering this past summer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, KILN dives deep into our relationships with siblings, mourning, modern art, and being haunted by your father's ghost.
Can we ever know a person in their entirety? Or do we only ever see one angle? It's the night before the funeral of esteemed sculptor, Oliver M. Verino. In the throes of an unexpected reunion, his three children finalize their procrastinated eulogies in the soul-less walls of their childhood home. As each sibling competes with the other on the grounds of accuracy and allegiance to their father, a chaotic night ensues.
Why is new art so hard to understand? This ensemble of Pittsburgh-born artists based in New York City have devised their script through improvisation and collaborative writing. Before migrating to NYC, the artists Joshua, Logan, and Felicia gained their passion for theatre creation through Pittsburgh’s rich performance scene, and education from Carnegie Mellon University, The Pittsburgh Public Theatre, and Donna Belajac Casting Studio.
To choose Pittsburgh, and collaborate with the Pittsburgh Glass Center as the location of the stateside debut of KILN is the completion of a full circle moment in all of their artistries.
Devised by and Starring: Joshua Brelsford, Felicia Reuter and Logan Shiller
