A Scene From Twelve Angry Men |
In anticipation of Prime Stage Theatre’s upcoming production of Twelve Angry Men, actress Rebecca Godlove offers an inside-the-script look at the play’s origins in her “Twelve Angry Men: Courtroom Drama in Pop Culture and Real Life”.
The program takes place Tuesday, Apr. 22 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Andrew Carnegie Free Library, 300 Beechwood Avenue in Carnegie. The program is free, but registration is encouraged at https://acfree.librarycalendar.com/event/prime-stage-twelve-angry-men-event-4083.
Godlove is a veteran actress who recently appeared in Prime Stage Theatre’s production of Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott and as Pittsburgh Civil War nurse Emilie Daub in the company’s annual Cemetery History Walk at Homewood Cemetery.
“We will examine scintillating true crime cases of hung
juries and mistrials,” says Godlove, “and explore where fiction diverges from
real legal procedure. It’s a fun night of pop culture and real-life courtroom
drama as we prepare for Prime Stage Theatre’s production of Twelve Angry Men in
May.”
Prime Stage Theatre presents Twelve Angry Men, running for seven shows May 2-11, 2025 at New Hazlett Theater, 6 Allegheny Square East, on Pittsburgh’s Northside.
Directed by Shane Valenzi, Twelve Angry Men is based on the riveting 1955 television movie written by Reginald Rose and adapted for the stage by Sherman L. Sergel in 1983.
Tickets for Twelve Angry Men (adult $39, artist/educator $24, student $19) can be reserved online at https://ci.ovationtix.com/36406/production/1208646 or by calling (412) 320-4610 x10.
The play is sponsored by Eckert Seamans, Attorneys at Law;
media sponsor is SLB Radio.
Brinda adds that Twelve Angry Men has been used in high school civics classes, law school seminars and business management courses to illustrate group dynamics and interpersonal behavior. “It is an example of how theatre brings to light important issues in our daily lives and offers a fresh way of looking at them.”
The Twelve Angry Men cast features Paul Anderson, John Dolphin, Marc Duchin, Jason Fernandez, Luke Hancock, Sam Lander, Everett Lowe, David Nackman, Johnny Patalano, Matthew Rush, Mark Spondike and Keith Zagorski as Jurors 1-12.
Since its founding in 1996, Prime Stage Theatre has presented over 100 plays that introduce student and family audiences to classic and contemporary works of world literature.

On May 5 Prime Stage Theatre will premiere a new stage work
that tells a uniquely Pittsburgh story of innovation, compassion and civic
empowerment.
Freedom House: Giving Life a Second Chance by playwright
L.E. McCullough dramatizes the 1967 creation of Freedom House Ambulance
Service, America’s first mobile emergency medical unit staffed by
professionally-trained paramedics.
During its 8-year lifespan, Freedom House served as the
foundational model for today’s paramedic profession and modern EMS departments
around the world.
Initiated in the heart of Pittsburgh’s Hill District,
Freedom House was an extraordinary experiment in community medicine and
workforce development involving physicians from the University of Pittsburgh,
social activists from Freedom House Enterprises, philanthropists from Maurice
Falk Medical Fund and hospital staff of Mercy and Presbyterian hospitals, from
where the Freedom House ambulance service operated.
Crucial to the program’s success were the Hill District men
and women whose dedication and skill transformed themselves, their community
and the nation.
Directed by Scott Calhoon, tickets to the May 5 staged
reading are pay-what-you-can (starting at $10) and are available by calling New
Hazlett Theater at (412) 320-4610 x10 or by reserving online at
https://tinyurl.com/yhr5rb9e.
Freedom House: Giving
Life a Second Chance is the first-ever stage production of the Freedom House
story, and it portrays a topic that couldn’t be more timely, as America’s
public health resources face an ongoing wave of new challenges.
The cast of Michael Bennett, Cynthia Davis, John Dolphin,
Linda Haston, Wali Jamal, Kerry McGrath and DeVaughn Robinson perform multiple
roles.
“The Freedom House story is an important story of
resourcefulness and collaboration, and it’s a story we believe our community
wants to see dramatized onstage,” says Prime Stage Theatre artistic director
Dr. Wayne Brinda.
Freedom House: Giving
Life a Second Chance is L.E. McCullough’s most recent commissioned work for
Prime Stage Theatre. In 2023, his play Perseverance about a Pittsburgh
Holocaust survivor received a National Endowment for the Arts production grant
as a co-production with Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh.
Since its founding in 1996, Prime Stage Theatre has
presented over 100 plays that introduce student and family audiences to classic
and contemporary works of world literature. The theatre’s current season concludes May 2-11 with Twelve Angry Men.
