Ukraine’s stories…revisited”
RealTime Arts invites the public to attend “Forge Us Teeth of Metal: Ukraine’s Stories…Revisited,” a live performance with Ukrainian folktales, music, food and community conversations September 4th from 7-9:30pm at Carnegie Coffee Company (132 E Main St, Carnegie, PA 15106).
“Forge Us Teeth of Metal” is the second event in RealTime’s Ukrainian Storytelling Series, fundraising performances supporting their upcoming theatrical work, there is a blue that only children see, being developed with Ukrainian and US veterans.
“Forge Us Teeth of Metal” will include Ukrainian folk stories performed live by award-winning Pittsburgh actors such as Julianne Avolio, Cynthia Dallas, Hazel Leroy, Joe McGranahan, and Cotter Smith; music by the Frazé-Frazénkos from Lviv; excerpts of new writing and music; and conversations allowing audiences to contribute to the development of there is a blue that only children see. Attendees will also be introduced to Ukrainian and US veteran participants through video interviews.
This performance follows RealTime’s “Build Me A Voice: The Grit and Soul of Ukrainian Folklore” in April, the first event in their Ukrainian Storytelling Series. The series will continue with one more event in November, and will culminate next year with the world premiere of the play there is a blue that only children see, written by Molly Rice with contributions from veterans and the Pittsburgh community and music by Oleksandr Frazé-Frazénko, directed by Rusty Thelin.
RealTime Arts co-founder Thelin said the work is a reminder of how intertwined the United States’ roots are with those of people from around the world.
“We’ve been making work that reaffirms human interconnection for a decade, and this project is an extension of that,” he said.
