City Theatre | Casting for Hedwig and the Angry Inch

  

City Theatre and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust are thrilled to announce casting for the City Theatre production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch by John Cameron Mitchell with Music and Lyrics by Stephen Trask presented in partnership with the Pittsburgh Cultural District at the Greer Cabaret, May 2 – June 7. The production is directed by Robert Ramirez, head of the School of Drama at Carnegie Mellon University, joined by Music Supervisor Rick Edinger (Co-Artistic Director at the CMU Center for New Work Development), and Music Director Ben Brosche.

Hedwig was first staged at City Theatre in 2003 and was adored by audiences and hailed by critics. The company is honored to stage their first-ever revival in partnership with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Prepared to electrify the Greer Cabaret downtown as the legendary Hedwig is local performer Treasure Treasure. The role of Yitzhak will be performed by Theo Allyn and the the full band lineup of the Angry Inch will be announced in the spring.

“Hedwig is a torchbearer for the human spirit, shared Treasure. “I was only two months old when the wall fell. A longing for liberation and the search for home have been tenets of my life.”

The creative team includes: scenic design by Britton Mauk, costume design by Daniele Tyler Mathews, lighting design by Andrew David Ostrowski, sound design by Zachary Beattie-Brown, and media content design by Scott Andrew. Patti Kelly is the production stage manager.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

 Treasure Treasure is a multi-dimensional artist whose career has spanned three decades. Notable appearances: Hamlet (Quantum); Cabaret (Hangar), First Lady (PICT) & Jesus Christ Superstar at the Byham.  Broadway: Annie Get Your Gun.  She appeared in the premiere of Stephen Trask’s co-authored musical This Ain’t No Disco at Atlantic Theater Company.  Her EP, HYPNEROTOMACHIA, is available on all platforms and can be heard in rotation on 91.3 WYEP.  Treasure's short film which synthesizes trans identity & yearbook portraiture recently premiered at the August Wilson African-American Cultural Center.  She was a 2023 F.I.N.E. artist-in-residence at Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.  Treasure is the co-author and star of her original play, Agnus Teaches Acting (Winter 2026, New Hazlett Theater).  @wowitstreasure / @agnusteachesacting

 

 Theo Allyn is ecstatic to be back at City Theatre, having last been seen in their underwear as Stephanie in POTUS - innertube and all. Other City Theatre credits include Tigers Be Still, Precious Little, and The 13th of Paris. Having just completed a nine month tour with Great Lakes Theatre/Idaho Shakespeare Festival and the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival in their joint productions of Twelfth Night (Feste) and Peter and the Starcatcher (Smee), it is very good to be home. Regional credits: Jo in Dobama Theatre’s Little Women (awarded Best Non Musical Production of 2023 Cleveland); A Musical Christmas Carol, Young Frankenstein, Into the Woods and Anything Goes with Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera; the original San Francisco company of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child; This Beautiful City with Diversionary Theatre (San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Craig Noel Nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Musical); The Upstairs Concierge and The Matchmaker at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago; as well as local credits with Quantum Theatre, Pittsburgh Public Theatre, and Pittsburgh Irish and Classical. Training includes the Atlantic Theatre Company Acting School and NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
