Seat naming opportunities are now available in the August Wilson African American Cultural Center (AWAACC) theater, offering supporters a legacy-giving opportunity to make a meaningful and visible investment in one of the nation’s largest Black multidisciplinary arts centers.
Offered as part of AWAACC’s Fuel the Future Fundraising Drive supporting the Center’s mission and long-term sustainability, the seat dedication program invites donors to honor loved ones, commemorate milestones, or affirm their commitment to Black arts and culture. Each dedicated seat serves as a lasting tribute within AWAACC’s theater and reflects a shared belief in the power of storytelling, performance, and creative expression.
“A seat dedication is both deeply personal and forward-looking,” said Janis Burley, President & CEO and Artistic Director of the August Wilson African American Cultural Center. “It’s a meaningful way to honor someone special and make a gift that continues to give to our community and to the generations of artists who will follow.”
Seat naming opportunities are available at $7,500 for orchestra seats and $3,750 for balcony seats, providing multiple entry points for supporters to participate. Each dedication directly supports AWAACC’s ability to present world-class performances, offer free public exhibitions, and deliver educational programs that uplift the African American experience and the African diaspora.
Each dedication includes a personalized inscription—such as “In Memory of August Wilson” or “In Honor of [Name]”—affixed to a seat in the theater. Seat dedications remain in effect for ten (10) years, creating a meaningful and visible connection between donors and the Center’s ongoing artistic mission to foster community engagement, education, and creative innovation.
Put your name on a seat in our theater and help fuel the future of AWAACC by completing the seat dedication form and making a gift today: https://awaacc.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Dedicating-a-Seat-at-AWAACC.pdf

ABOUT AUGUST WILSON AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURAL CENTER
The August Wilson African American Cultural Center is a nonprofit cultural organization located in Pittsburgh’s cultural district that generates artistic, educational, and community initiatives that advance the legacy of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson.
One of the largest cultural centers in the country focused exclusively on the African American experience and the celebration of Black culture and the African diaspora, the non-profit organization welcomes more than 100,000 visitors locally and nationally.
Through year-round programming across multiple genres, such as the annual Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival, Black Bottom Film Festival, AWCommunity Days, TRUTHSayers speaker series, and rotating art exhibits in its galleries, the Center provides a platform for established and emerging artists of color whose work reflects the universal issues of identity that Wilson tackled, and which still resonate today.
