Below are the new Art After Dark classes being offered this spring at Manchester Craftsmen's Guild.

Focus on Form (Ceramics)

Instructor: Bryce Hemington

Tuesdays: April 7th – June 2nd

9 sessions

6:30 PM to 9:00 PM

In this ceramic session, elevate your work beyond the basics as we talk about form and function and being intentional with both the shapes we make and how they will exist in the world. This class is for both beginners and advanced students. All are welcome, wheel throwing and hand building will be covered in this course.

Photography Foundations

Thursdays: April 9 – May 28th

7 classes - NO Class April 23rd

6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

Learn the foundations to developing your photography knowledge. In this hands-on course, participants will gain an appreciation of film photography that will enhance their overall photography skills. Topics to cover include the exposure triangle, lighting, composition and darkroom techniques.

While this is a fairly obvious observation, this thought became especially poignant when, over a period of less than 24 hours, when I found myself on board a battleship in late 18 th century Portsmouth, England, then, 17 hours later, walking into a small Black church in rural South Carolina in the present day. The vehicles for this geographic time travel to places and times worlds apart were Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera, “H.M. S. Pinafore” and playwright Javon Johnson’s “Sanctified.” Both works, while musical comedies with morals to the story, came from diverse and rich cultural backgrounds.
