Dear David S. Zuchowski,
While interviewing for the position of Executive Director of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh earlier this year, I had the opportunity to sit down with Daniel Singer over coffee to learn more about him and his vision for MCP. Though I’d already witnessed some of his work from the podium of several Mendelssohn performances, I was energized to hear him talk about the power of music to heal, comfort, and transform. I could tell right away that this was an artistic partner I was excited to work with.
A few months later, I am very pleased to announce that Daniel Singer has signed a two-year extension to his contract as Music Director of the Mendelssohn Choir, running through the 2027-28 season.
Along with thoughtful musicianship, Daniel brings a deep sensitivity to the emotional connection between music and people to this work. Now in his third year as Music Director, Daniel has cultivated a powerful sound in this choir and developed programming which invites audiences to reflect on our shared humanity with performances like Coming Home, We All Sing, and CrosSING Bridges. I am thrilled to continue this important work with Daniel and the Mendelssohn Choir, and I cannot wait to share with you our plans for next year.
In the first week of June, we will be announcing The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh’s 2026–2027 Season. It is a lineup that showcases the full range of what this incredible ensemble can do. The season spans the breadth of choral music from the Renaissance to contemporary works with a focus on underrepresented composers, new music, and programs that reflect both the versatility and ambition of this choir.
As you’ve come to expect with Daniel’s programming, the 2026-27 Season will be filled with genuine depth, intention, and hope. Thank you for being part of this community. More to come soon.
Sincerely, |
