We’re less than a month away from the opening of The Jungle Book, and we want to give you a sneak peek at this vibrant new opera! 


On November 15, we’re teaming up with the Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall in Carnegie, PA for a free Storytime Preview Event. 


Join us in the Lincoln Gallery at 11:00 AM on Saturday November 15, and be treated to a themed craft activity, a short reading from Kipling’s original novel, and live performances by cast members of our upcoming production of The Jungle Book! 


It’s a perfect activity for the young (or the young at heart)! We can’t wait to see you there!

This November, bring your whole pack to The Jungle Book, a new opera for all ages by Kamala Sankaram and Kelley Rourke!


In this reimagining of Rudyard Kipling’s classic story, The Jungle Book follows Mowgli, an endangered human cub who finds refuge with a pack of wolves in the jungle. Together, Mowgli and the pack discover the meaning of family, community, and what it means to belong. In a time when the division in our world feels overwhelming, this story reminds us of “the heart that beats in all of us.”


Sankaram’s luminous score blends elements of Indian classical music with Western traditions, creating a sound world as colorful and diverse as the jungle itself. Featuring a stellar cast and an exciting renewal of our partnership with the Pittsburgh Youth Chorus, this is a Pittsburgh premiere you won’t want to miss!


Following last season's sold-out run of The Little Prince and your amazing feedback, we have recommitted to multigenerational programming as a core part of our season. Imaginative productions like The Jungle Book will delight grown-ups as much as they will children, with music that will bring a smile to your face and a song to your heart.

The play, the fifth in playwright Mark Clayton Southers’ series of ten works, each set in a different decade of the 19 th century, centers on two families living on a cotton plantation in 1822 Deep South Alabama. Jenny Malarkey, Joseph McGranaghan* and Maddie Kocur The slave owning Wise family is shown in marked contrast to their enslaved cotton field workers, who, as was the custom, took the surname of their master.
