"We are excited to open doors of opportunity so
members of the communities where we live and work can experience the world
class musical talent the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra brings to our region,”
said Kurt Barshick, Vice President, U. S. Steel Mon Valley Works. “Andrew
Carnegie’s philanthropic legacy lives on through our continued support of local
schools and cultural institutions like Carnegie One and the PSO.”
In the 2024-2025 school year alone, the PSO’s
Schooltime program reached more than 22,000 students across Southwestern
Pennsylvania, with participation from schools in the U. S. Steel footprint
including West Mifflin and Woodland Hills. Support for transportation through
the bus fund helps remove financial barriers for schools serving students with
significant low-income populations.
The Carnegie Library of Braddock (Carnegie One)
remains a symbol of access to knowledge and opportunity. Through concerts,
conversations and educational initiatives hosted in the historic space, the PSO
and U. S. Steel aim to celebrate the region’s shared heritage while investing
in its future.
